About Dr. Sarah B. Michalowski

I received my BSW from Seton Hall University, my MSW from Columbia University, and my DSW from Rutgers University. I hold my Social Work Supervisors Certificate through the National Association of Social Workers.

I am trained in EMDR Level I and II, and Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  I participated in the New Jersey Child Sexual Abuse Case Consultation Project.  I hold my School Social Work Certificate for the state of New Jersey.  I am a member of The National Association for Social Workers and The Association for Play Therapy.

I have extensive amount of experience in the mental health field, including working with those who have experienced trauma, and youth and families involved with the Children's System of Care.  I am a clinical supervisor for those seeking social work licensure.

My clinical social work experience for licensure began at a Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center, where I coordinated a national program that encompassed week-long multi-disciplinary trainings on child sexual abuse and forensic interviewing. I conducted psychosocial trauma evaluations and forensic interviews of children who were abused and neglected.  I provided individual, family and group therapy to children and their families.  Prior to that, I began my social work career as the Program Coordinator/ Family Worker/ Parent Educator for an Even Start Family Literacy Program within a school district.

I have worked in academia in both the undergraduate and graduate levels of social work.  I created a course title: "Mental Health, Treatment Approaches, and Self Care Techniques" to help students make the connection between yoga, holistic health, and mental health.  I am currently a contributing faculty member for an online University and teach the Field Education course.

In the DSW program, my work consisted of a case study, “The Clinical Stew: Two Children’s Response to Treatment Within a Family System of Multiple and Complex Trauma” and a Multimedia Multi-Perspectival Project “What is Forgiveness in Social Work?”

Since 2005, I have volunteered with multiple church youth groups and faith-based non-profit organizations.  I have participated in retreats and yearly mission trips to help build and repair homes in Kentucky, New Orleans, New Jersey, and West Virginia while educating for social justice.  My most recent trip was to Matamoros, Mexico to provide holistic trauma support through yoga and art therapy to the asylum seekers.

In March 2020, I became a Reiki Level 1 Certified Practitioner.  In July 2020 I became a RYT-200.  In December 2020, I completed 100 hours of Yin Yoga Certification. In June 2021, I completed a Yoga Nidra training.  In July 2021, I became a Reiki Level 2 Certified Practitioner.  My goal is to bring the practice of yoga into mental health services and social work education.  My other interests include photography, yoga, and mountain biking.
